Gaza is a Canadian Issue
Canada has a long history of standing up for human rights and championing international law. From opposing apartheid in South Africa to taking strong stances on humanitarian crises, Canada has often been on the right side of history. However, when it comes to Palestine and Gaza, that legacy has been shattered.
Since October 7th, Canada has displayed a clear double standard—greenlighting a genocide, supporting ethnic cleansing and illegal settlements, and even arming Israel while ignoring Palestinian suffering. The evidence is overwhelming, and the hypocrisy is undeniable. Yet this is not just a foreign policy issue—this is a domestic crisis as well.
Canada’s Position on Palestine is Impacting Canadians
📌 A Two-Tier Refugee System
- Refugees from Israel and Ukraine have been welcomed swiftly and with open arms.
- Palestinians, even those facing genocide, are denied the same protections.
📌 The Silencing of Canadians
- Canadians—including students, activists, and professionals—are being doxxed, fired, harassed, and arrested simply for speaking out on Palestinian rights.
- Protests in solidarity with Gaza are policed aggressively, while other demonstrations face no such suppression.
📌 The Rise of Anti-Palestinian Racism & Islamophobia
- Canadian Muslims and pro-Palestinian voices are being targeted, censored, and vilified in the media and public discourse.
- Civil liberties are being eroded, with disproportionate crackdowns on those advocating for Palestinian human rights.
This is not about choosing Gaza over Canada—it is about defending Canada from becoming a nation that abandons its principles when convenient.
A Vote for Gaza Means Defending Our Freedoms
Canadian Muslims, like every other citizen, recognize the challenges our country faces. We understand national security threats, economic pressures, and the need to protect our borders. But at the core of our identity, Canada has always been a nation that protects constitutional freedoms—freedom of speech and freedom of association.
Yet today, those freedoms are under attack. If our Constitution is diluted, if our rights to expression, protest, and free thought are crushed, then Canada itself is at risk. Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism are escalating, and if we don’t stop it now—when will it stop?
Gaza Has Changed the World—Including Canada
Gaza has exposed the double standard in global politics, and Canada has not been immune to that reckoning. We have watched politicians who once claimed to support human rights remain silent or actively complicit in war crimes. We have seen institutions punish those who call for justice, prioritizing political expediency over morality.
But this fight is bigger than just our generation. It is about our children. It is about ensuring they grow up in a Canada that values human rights, not one that suppresses them.
Holding Candidates Accountable
When you meet with candidates or party leaders who try to dismiss Palestine as a foreign issue, who try to tell you that you should care for Canada right now, we encourage you to challenge them.
📢 Tell them that our concern for Gaza is not separate from our concern for Canada.
📢 Tell them that our love for Canada is why we fight for justice—because Canada must uphold its own values.
📢 Tell them that we will vote based on principle, not party loyalty.
📌 Gaza is a Canadian issue. Protecting Palestine means protecting Canada’s moral standing.
This is our moment to stand firm. If not now, when?
