From Mobilization to Advocacy

The 2025 federal election was a breakthrough moment for Canadian Muslims.

For the first time, tens of thousands of voters across the country mobilized around a principled approach to politics—not fear, not party loyalty, but values rooted in justice, civil rights, and accountability. The MuslimsVote.ca campaign played a critical role in that shift. And now, as the ballots are counted, a new phase begins.

But first, what is MuslimsVote.ca—and why was it created?

A Strategic Project by CMPAC

MuslimsVote.ca was a national election mobilization campaign developed and led by the Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council (CMPAC)—a non-partisan organization dedicated to building civic infrastructure and political influence for Canadian Muslims.

CMPAC launched the MuslimsVote.ca project to build long-term, coordinated lobbying and policy engagement in Ottawa on the issues that directly affect Canadian Muslims—from systemic Islamophobia and civil liberties, to foreign policy and federal regulations. This work complements the important role played by organizations like the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), which has long been the community’s frontline defender on civil liberties—responding to hate, discrimination, and institutional injustice, and supporting individuals in urgent need. While NCCM holds institutions accountable for violations and protects our rights, CMPAC’s mandate is to proactively shape policy at the federal level—through legislative engagement, coalition-building, and long-term political strategy. Together, this ecosystem ensures that Canadian Muslims are both protected and politically empowered.

For too long, the Muslim community has struggled not only to mobilize votes during election periods, but to shape the national conversation about the policies that define our lives—whether it’s anti-terror laws, immigration policy, CRA overreach, or Canada’s stance on global human rights.

Elections are one of the few moments when every candidate is listening. CMPAC recognized that this moment—this federal election—was a powerful opportunity to meet with candidates, present community-informed policy priorities, and secure commitments that go beyond slogans and generic outreach.

That’s why CMPAC created MuslimsVote.ca—not just as a website, but as a grassroots civic strategy.

It trained and empowered local community members to:

  • Meet with candidates
  • Discuss real policy issues
  • Secure clear public commitments
  • Inform voters and drive principled turnout

The results speak for themselves:

  • 70,000+ voters mobilized
  • 500,000+ digital interactions
  • Endorsements and recommendations in over 300 ridings
  • 22 electoral outcomes directly shaped by CMPAC’s organizing

But This Was Never Just About One Election

The purpose of CMPAC isn’t limited to campaigns. The work continues post-election:

Lobbying with elected officials. CMPAC engages directly with MPs, policymakers, and staff in Ottawa. Our job now is to make sure the promises made during the campaign are not forgotten.

Sending our community to the Hill. That means placing young Muslim professionals in Parliament as staffers, facilitating community testimony at hearings, and ensuring Muslim organizations are regularly consulted on public policy.

Mobilizing for every level of government. Whether it’s federal, provincial, or municipal elections, MuslimsVote.ca will continue to serve as a trusted tool to help Muslims make informed, principled decisions—and CMPAC will continue to build the civic capacity to support them.

The Next Phase: From Campaign to Civic Institution

MuslimsVote.ca will now operate as the permanent elections arm of CMPAC. Re-activated during election cycles, it will always be guided by clear principles, grounded in grassroots engagement, and backed by CMPAC’s national infrastructure.

That means:
✔️ No more one-off election mobilizations
✔️ No more fragmented community strategy
✔️ No more reactive politics

We are building infrastructure. That means community organizing, policy expertise, digital engagement tools, and year-round civic education.

This Is Just the Beginning

We proved that Canadian Muslims can vote with discipline. We proved we can impact outcomes. Now, we must shape legislation, build civic leadership, and hold governments accountable.

  • Digital tools will be refined and expanded
  • Volunteers and organizers will be trained and empowered
  • Candidates and parties will be pushed to act—not just speak

This is what long-term political power looks like.
This is how a campaign becomes an institution.
This is how our vote becomes a force.
